Mike Tryon

Public Sector Policy Advisor

Former member of the Illinois House of Representatives (2004–2016), where he served as Assistant Minority Leader and Republican spokesperson for the Environment and Renewable Energy & Sustainability committees. A McHenry County Board chairman before the legislature, he brings deep public-sector policy expertise and an environmental science background to GIG's government-sector clients.

Mike advises GIG's government and public-sector clients on energy policy, regulatory affairs, and sustainability strategy — drawing on more than three decades in elected office and environmental governance.

His tenure in the Illinois General Assembly began with his election to the House of Representatives in November 2004. He served as a member and Republican spokesperson for several House committees, including the Environment Committee and the Renewable Energy & Sustainability Committee. For his final four years in the House, he served as Assistant Minority Leader under the House Minority Leader. He retired from the House in 2016 after ushering 70 bills into law as Chief House Sponsor — and an additional 54 resolutions that are now part of the Illinois Compiled Statutes.

Mike's public service began earlier, when he joined the McHenry County Board in 1989. In 1998 he was elected unanimously by his colleagues to serve as Chairman, a role he held until his election to the State Legislature in 2004.

As a lawmaker, Representative Tryon was honored with multiple awards, including the Champion of Free Enterprise Award, the Environmental Council Award, the Outstanding Environmental Leadership Award, the Friend of Agriculture Award, and Legislator of the Year recognitions from the Staffing Services Association of Illinois, the Illinois Public Health Association, and the Illinois Association of Community Mental Health Authorities.

Mike holds a degree in Environmental Health Science from Indiana State University.
